On March 20, 2014, just before 8pm, Amaranth RCMP executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Norway Avenue in Amaranth, Manitoba. Police also searched a vehicle that was located on Kinosota Road. Portage la Prairie RCMP, Portage la Prairie Police Dog Section and Sandy Bay Dakota Ojibway Police Service assisted with the searches.

Police say that approximately 320 grams of marijuana, a sum of cash, paraphernalia consistent with that used for the trafficking of a controlled substance and can of pepper spray which is a prohibited weapon was seized from the residence and vehicle.
RCMP report that 36-year-old Joseph William Demerais of Sandy Bay First Nation, Manitoba, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of proceeds of crime and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Demerais was held in custody and then upon appearing in court on Monday, March 24, he was released on a recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act are pending on an adult female.
