On April 3, 2014, at approximately 8:30pm, Prairie Mountain RCMP responded to a collision involving a school bus and an SUV in Waywayseecappo First Nation. Local fire and EMS also attended.
Investigation shows that the SUV was northbound on Shingoose Road when it collided with the southbound school bus, which was carrying four children at the time. The school bus driver and the children suffered minor injuries. The 40-year-old female driver of the SUV had minor injuries as did the 41-year-old male rear seat passenger. A 44-year-old male front passenger suffered serious injuries. All three were transported to Russell Hospital, where the 44-year-old male was pronounced deceased.
RCMP report that alcohol is considered to be a factor in this collision and that neither passenger in the SUV was wearing a seatbelt.
A RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the RCMP Criminal Crash Investigation Team are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
