On May 15, 2009 shortly after midnight an eastbound tractor trailer unit checked into the West Hawk Truck Inspection Station as directed by the Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer.
RCMP, as part of the National Road Safety Week, were on hand to assist which resulted in the voluntary search of the trailer hauling cargo destined to Ontario.
Boxes inconsistent with the main commodity were noted and resulted in the seizure of an estimate 175 lbs of marijuana with an estimated street value of $400,000.
The driver, a 54-year-old Aurora, Ontario man and lone occupant of the tractor trailer unit was arrested and released on a promise to appear to attend court in Winnipeg on July 23, 2009. He will be facing a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Goods and Substances Act.
