On April 18, 2014, at approximately 12:20am, officers from the Dauphin RCMP Detachment were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Municipal Road 151, approximately eight kilometres north of Dauphin. Local fire and EMS also attended.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed two pickup trucks off of the road. One of the trucks was in the north ditch and the other in the south ditch.
Police investigation shows that a westbound pickup truck and an eastbound pickup truck collided, with the westbound vehicle coming to rest in the south ditch and the eastbound vehicle coming to rest in the north ditch. The driver of the westbound vehicle, a 55-year-old Dauphin man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other truck, a 25-year-old rural Dauphin man was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP report that alcohol consumption and not wearing a seatbelt are considered contributing factors in the collision. The investigation continues with the assistance of an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.
