Two Long Plain First Nation women are facing numerous charges after being arrested by police in connection to a recent armed robbery.
On April 22, 2014, just before 6:30pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a robbery at Arrowhead Crescent Gas Bar in Long Plain First Nation, Manitoba. Investigation revealed that two females had entered the business wielding a knife and demanded the cashier give them the money from the cash register. Once obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes, the suspects fled from the building. No injuries were reported.
With the assistance of the RCMP Portage la Prairie Police Dog Service, the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, as well as Treherne and Amaranth RCMP, Portage RCMP officers completed further investigation. Within two hours of the offence, police apprehended the two suspects.
RCMP report that Kayla Cherise Laporte, 27 and Nicole Eve Laporte, 27, both of Long Plain First Nation, are facing numerous robbery related charges. Both women have been held in custody and are scheduled to appear in Portage Provincial Court on April 24, 2014.
