On May 15, 2014, at 10am, RCMP East Traffic Services held a Checkstop on the Perimeter Highway to kick off increased enforcement for the May long weekend.
As Canada Road Safety Week comes to an end and the May long weekend is upon us, the RCMP would like to remind motorists to drive safely and make smart choices by following these four basic rules:
- Drive sober
- Slow down
- Buckle up
- Focus on the road and leave the phone alone
The RCMP will do its part to help keep the roadways safe by ramping up traffic enforcement this long weekend. There will be the equivalent of 472 man-hours, which means 53 extra shifts for members dedicated to looking for impaired drivers – and that is on top of regularly scheduled members.
