Manitobans wishing to purchase a 2014 vehicle annual park pass, can now do so at any Manitoba Public Insurance service centre.
Beginning this Saturday, Manitobans wishing to purchase a pass ─ which costs $40 ─ can attend one of three Winnipeg locations: Bison Drive, Main Street and Gateway Road. All other service centres will be selling the park pass on Tuesday, May 20.
“This is added convenience and accessibility for Manitobans who want to enjoy the province’s many parks,” said MaryAnn Kempe, vice-president, Community & Corporate Relations, Manitoba Public Insurance.
“Our service centres are located in 13 communities throughout the province. We have offices as far north as Thompson and south to Winkler. This pilot project, involving our service centres, will provide a good gauge as to the level of public interest and participation.”
“We know Manitobans love visiting and spending time in our beautiful provincial parks,” said Conservation and Water Stewardship Minister Gord Mackintosh. “The government, along with our partners, is trying to make obtaining a park pass as convenient as possible for Manitoba families. Now, they can obtain their park pass at MPI, on-line and at some park gates and campground offices.”
Manitobans enjoy outdoor activities
“Studies show that spending time in nature helps people with problem-solving, memory, creativity, and physical health,” said Ron Thiessen, Executive Director of the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. “The province’s initiatives to increase the convenience of experiencing our outstanding parks will go a long way toward better living for all Manitobans.”
Currently, vehicle park passes are available at approximately 400 vendors throughout the province including small local businesses, big box stores, campgrounds, district and regional offices, and some Autopac agents. Manitobans can also purchase a pass via a new, on-line purchase option available on the Canada Map Sales website.
