On May 17, 2014, just before 4am, Ashern RCMP responded to a call of a fatal motor vehicle collision on Old 514 Road, approximately 5 kilometres north of Highway 68.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered a SUV on its roof. The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old male from the RM of Grahamdale, was not wearing a seatbelt and had been ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The passenger, a 26-year-old male from Lake Manitoba First Nation, had been buckled up and was able to extricate himself from the vehicle. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP report that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision. A RCMP Forensic Traffic Reconstructionist is assisting with the investigation.
