On June 3, 2014, Steinbach RCMP arrested Leslie Colmer, 66 years of age, on 14 charges of fraud and one charge of assault.
An intensive investigation was initiated by Steinbach RCMP after they received a complaint. An individual had concerns about Colmer after seeing him for what was believed to be a doctor’s appointment. There was concern about Colmer’s behaviour as a doctor and about the medications he prescribed.
During the investigation, it was discovered that Colmer did not have a medical licence, but he saw and treated patients in Steinbach, Winnipeg, Selkirk and surrounding rural areas. Police believe there are more potential victims in the Winnipeg, Steinbach, Selkirk, Brandon and Beausejour areas.
Police say that Colmer remains in custody and that a court date is still pending.
Steinbach RCMP were assisted in the investigation by RCMP Winnipeg Major Crimes Unit, D Division Federal, Serious and Organized Crime Unit, Winnipeg Commercial Crime Section, and Selkirk RCMP, as well as the Ontario Provincial Police.
RCMP report that the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be considered.
