RCMP want to remind everyone that while you may be anxious to reach your summer or weekend destination, speeding is not a safe or responsible choice.
In 2013 alone, Manitoba RCMP charged approximately 22,000 people with speed-related infractions. In addition, 48 per cent of traffic fatalities in rural Manitoba involve either excessive speed or driving too fast for road conditions. That results in nearly 44 deaths per year – a shockingly high number.
While the roads in summer seem clear and dry, that is not an invitation to drive aggressively, drive over the speed limit or risk your life, or the lives of others, on Manitoba roadways.
Not only is speeding dangerous, it can be costly. The fine for driving 20 km over the limit is $312.25 and that increases to $573.50 in a construction zone.
Don’t take chances with your life or anyone else’s. Slow down and enjoy the ride.
