Results of a Manitoba Livestock Manure Management Initiative survey of how swine manure applicators are responding to PED will be released later this week in Springfield, Missouri.
The first results from a survey being conducted by the Manitoba Livestock Manure Management Initiative in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin Madison to gather information on how swine manure applicators are dealing with Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea will be released this week.
MLMMI executive director John Carney says questions focus on changes manure applicators have made in their practices to manage and prevent the spread of the PED virus.
It’s targeted at what we refer to as for hire commercial applicators and so these are manure applicators where that’s their business, that’s their livelihood and that’s who the target audience is.
In terms of who’s interested in the results, I think anybody who’s livelihood is tied to the pig industry or the pig industry certainly should be concerned about the PED virus and will be very interested in the results because frankly we’re all in this together.
The North American Manure Expo is going to be in Springfield, Missouri this year on July 9 and the results will be presented at Springfield but of course many people won’t be travelling to that event but we will also be communicating the results through a webinar on July 18 and there will be information on the MLMMI web site on how people could access that webinar.
I should mention the webinar is hosted by the Livestock and Poultry Environmental Learning Centre and we’re very appreciative of their support in doing this.
