On July 9, 2014, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of shots being fired at a crop duster airplane.
Initial police investigation revealed that shots were fired at a crop duster as it was conducting an aerial spray of a field in the RM of Portage near Fortier, Manitoba. Police say that the plane was hit, causing damage to the side and bottom of the aircraft but no injuries were reported in this incident.
After further investigation, police executed a search warrant at a residence and the outbuildings in the RM of Portage la Prairie. As a result of the search, a firearm and ammunition were seized.
RCMP report that Luc Arnal, 51, of the RM of Portage la Prairie has been charged with discharging a firearm, mischief over $5,000, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and endangering an aircraft.
The Portage la Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit assisted with the investigation.
