On May 24, 2009 at about 4 p.m., RCMP Morris Detachment were dispatched to Aubigny on Provincial Road 205 where an out of control grass fire was believed to have spread to a nearby structure.
Both RCMP and the Rosenort Fire Department responded, but before the fire could be brought under control, the fire had already spread to a residence and a vehicle parked near the house. Police learned that the grass fire was started by a 74-year-old Aubigny resident who is closely related to the owner of the property.
Estimates of damage are not currently available, however, the residence and a 1996 Ford Taurus are considered a total write-off.
The residence was vacant at the time of the fire and no one was injured. No other properties were affected.
The RCMP continues to investigate assisted by the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner.
