Rick Peters announced today his candidacy for Trustee in the Hanover School Division’s Grunthal ward, saying that as a parent, he believes that the Hanover School Division is one of the best in the Province of Manitoba and with strong leadership, it can continue as such. Peters feels it is important that parents are involved in the education of their children as a joint venture with teachers. Communication between educators and parents is a vital part of ensuring that our children graduate, academically, to the best of their abilities.
Rick Peters lives and has worked in the RM of Hanover for the past 30 years and enjoys being an active part of this positive, progressive, and hardworking community. Together with his wife Carolyn, along with their 4 children, ages 13-18, they live near Grunthal. Peters is currently the Vice President of Operations at Steve’s Livestock Transport, employed for the past 20 years. Using the experience he has gained in leading and managing a business, he intends to serve his community as a school trustee.
Peters emphasizes that a solid foundation for our students is built through strong connections between the people of the community in which we live and the schools within it. As an elected official, it is important to listen to and respect the viewpoints of all stakeholders and to ensure that as a whole, those values are reflected in the schools. Fiscal responsibility is important in both the private and public sectors. Although there is a cost to quality education, there is also an obligation to the taxpayers that the dollars they pay are not taken for granted and used wisely. Long term sustainability is important in all areas of an effective budget. Increasing efficiencies and seeking ways to reduce costs should always be the first way to a balanced budget. Increasing revenues from tax dollars should be the last resort.
In the past, Rick Peters has served on the boards of the Hanover Agriculture Society, the South Oaks PTA, the Grunthal Arena Board, and the Skating Club as well as spending many years in church leadership. With this experience along with many years in the transportation industry, Peters can make a strong contribution as a trustee in the Hanover School Division.
