Today, John Fehr announced that he will seek re-election to Steinbach City Council. Fehr feels that his first four years on council have given him a much better understanding of council and how it works.
“This last term, Steinbach City Council moved ahead with several projects including the Library and the curling rink, which enabled the SCU to remain downtown so that most people in the city could access it much more easily. Currently, the building of the west side sewer line, will enable future growth for the city”, says Fehr. “City Council kept focus on safety and security for Steinbach residents and added RCMP officers to make Steinbach as safe as possible. With a close eye on the finances, to ensure the city is competitive in taxes, as well as other fees that are required to operate Steinbach.”
For the next term of council, Fehr believes recreation and cultural facilities are a priority and notes there is much more work to do.
Fehr goes on to say, “I want to continue to represent the business community. Our city has grown incredibly over the last while and I believe we need to create an environment where we will be attractive to manufacturing and industrial companies looking to expand to a city where there is an attractive workforce. Many great people have made the decision to move here and we need to do all we can to make sure they are able to stay here. To get these companies to move here does not happen by accident but it requires some creative thinking. We need to market Steinbach as a very capable city with a reliable workforce. We need to pace our growth so that it is sustainable. This growth needs to be balanced.”
It is evident to Fehr that many of the churches in this city help to add a lot to the people’s values in Steinbach, including work ethics. This has been a value from when this city was established.
“Steinbach will undoubtedly see many changes in the next while and we need to prepare for that and help foster an environment that will serve us well in that process”, says Fehr.
John Fehr really feels that this is a very good city to serve, live, work, worship, and raise a family.
