On September 1, 2014, just before 9am, The Pas RCMP responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 297 (Cormorant Lake Road), approximately 25 kilometres east of the turn at Clearwater Lake.
Initial police investigation shows that an eastbound SUV lost control, rolled and landed on its roof in the south ditch. The ditch was full of water at the time of the incident.
Police say that the passenger of the vehicle, a 20-year-old male from Cormorant, Manitoba, was able to escape from the partially submerged vehicle. The driver, a 29-year-old male from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, was pronounced deceased on scene.
RCMP report that alcohol is considered to be a factor in the collision. An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
