As a result of considerable use of the community compost depots this past year, the City of Steinbach’s Solid Waste Department is pleased to offer a high quality compost product back to the public free of charge.
Residents of Steinbach and area have been diligently bringing their compostable kitchen, yard and garden waste to one of three depots in the city during the spring and summer months over the past few years. This material is then composted and screened at the Steinbach Landfill every year and used in the City’s parks and gardens, as well as made available to the public at no charge in the fall.
Finished compost is now available for pickup at the Steinbach Landfill. Members of the public are welcome to come pick up a load of compost at no charge. Please note, you are responsible for loading and transporting any compost material. Check in at the scale station when you arrive and ask where you can pick up the free compost.
Approximately 45 per cent of the waste in the Steinbach Landfill is compostable material. For more information on winter composting and composting in general, please visit www.compost.org or www.greenactioncentre.ca.
The City encourages residents to help make our community a more beautiful and greener place to live.
