On September 26, 2014, at about 7:49pm, St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP along with local emergency services attended the St. Malo Provincial Park Beach for a report of a possible drowning.
Police investigation revealed a 49-year-old male from Winnipeg, Manitoba, had come under distress in the lake and was a non-swimmer.
Efforts were made by local emergency services to locate the victim but were unsuccessful. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT) was contacted and attended the following morning.
Police say that the victim was recovered from the lake by RCMP URT and was pronounced deceased on scene. The cause of the drowning remains under investigation.
RCMP would like to remind the public that at this time of the year, the St. Malo Provincial Park Beach is closed and the safety line marking the deeper water has been removed.
The Medical Examiner Office is assisting St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP in the ongoing investigation. No foul play is suspected at this point.
