On the morning of September 28, 2014, Steinbach RCMP were called to a collision on Provincial Road 303, at the intersection of Road 32E, involving an ATV and a car.
Police say that a car traveling west on the 303 had struck a quad that was also traveling in the same direction. The driver of the quad was thrown from his quad and sustained fairly serious injuries.
Roadside investigation found the driver of the car and the driver of the quad to both be intoxicated. The driver of the quad was escorted to Bethesda Hospital by ambulance to tend to his injuries. The driver of the car was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and escorted to Steinbach Detachment to obtain samples of his breath. Steinbach RCMP held the scene and required the assistance of a traffic analyst to assess the situation.
The male driving the car provided samples of his breath to police and were found to be almost triple the legal limit of 80 mg%. The male was also found to be wanted by police. The male was remanded into custody and will appear before a judge in Winnipeg Court. His licence was suspended for 3 months and his vehicle impounded for 60 days.
RCMP report that the male escorted to Bethesda Hospital was unable to provide samples of his breath due to his injuries. Police arrested him for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and samples of his blood were obtained.
The investigation continues as police are awaiting the analysis of the male’s blood samples.
