During the early morning hours of September 27, 2014, Steinbach RCMP observed a vehicle swerving on Main Street near Hespeler South in Steinbach.
Police say that the vehicle approached the green light at the intersection of Main and Hespeler North and came to a complete stop in the middle of the intersection. The driver of the vehicle looked both ways then proceeded on Main Street where a traffic stop ensued.
After a brief roadside investigation the male was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and escorted to the Steinbach Detachment to obtain samples of his breath. Once at the Detachment the male refused to cooperate and became violent with police.
RCMP report that the male is facing charges of impaired operation of motor vehicle, driving over 80 mg% and assaulting a police officer. He was later released and is scheduled for court on November 6, 2014.
Police say that for refusing to provide breath samples to police, the male automatically was assessed a penalty twice that of a regular impaired operation of motor vehicle charge. His vehicle was impounded for 60 days and his licence immediately suspended for 3 months.
