The RM of Tache has decided to become proactive when it comes to disposing of old tires that are collected at the municipal landfill.
According to the municipality a “substantial amount” of scrap tires end up in the municipal landfill. This requires the municipality to find an appropriate means of collecting them.
The RM of Tache has decided to register with the Municipal Scrap Tire Storage Incentive Program which was recently implemented by Tire Stewardship Manitoba. Tire Stewardship Manitoba (TSM) is a not-for-profit association formed as a stewardship agency to represent the tire retailers of Manitoba.
As members of the program, once registered, the municipality will receive compensation for tires that are collected at the landfill sites. After the registration, the municipality will accept all Manitoba generated scrap tires at no charge from the general public, retailers and generators.
Since the program was very recently initiated, an estimate on how much money will come back to the municipality is unavailable.
