First aid and babysitting courses, being offered through the Steinbach Aquatic Centre, will be available to the public beginning this month.
Courses offered are as follows:
- Standard First Aid / CPR C Recertification – Sunday, October 19th, 8:30am-5pm
- Standard First Aid / CPR C Course – Friday, October 17th & 24th, 8:30am-5pm
- Babysitting Course – Monday, November 17th, 9am-5pm
The comprehensive standard First Aid and CPR courses teaches techniques for those who need training for work requirements, or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies. The course covers a variety of topics from basic (cardiovascular and breathing emergencies, CPR Level C, AED, prevention of disease transmission) to in-depth topics (sudden medical conditions and injuries to the head and spine).
In the Babysitting course, students will learn how to handle emergencies with confidence by providing the basic first aid skills for such common problems as choking, sprains and strains, bleeding, poisoning, burns, and fire emergency.
Get valuable tips for managing your babysitting jobs, as well as:
- Important child care skills
- Safety tips for children of all ages
- How to cope with common problems, like tantrums and crying
- What to do if anything makes a babysitter uncomfortable
- Some great games and other ideas for having fun with the kids while babysitting
- How to make the children’s environment safe and enjoyable
- What are the respective rights and responsibilities of a babysitter and the family hiring one
