A semi driver from Steinbach walks away uninjured after colliding with a pickup truck on Highway 1 earlier this week.
On October 20, 2014, at approximately 2:40pm, Virden RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a semi-trailer on Highway 1 at the intersection of Provincial Road 254 near Oak Lake, Manitoba.
Police say that a red GMC Sierra pickup entered the westbound lane of Highway 1 from PR 254, in front of the white Volvo semi-trailer. The driver of the semi-trailer was unable to avoid the impact and collided with the red GMC Sierra. Both vehicles ended their course in opposite ditches. The semi-trailer was transporting large beams of steal which became unsecured and spread onto the highway due to the impact.
RCMP report that the semi-trailer driver, a 22-year-old man from Steinbach, was uninjured. The driver of the red GMC Sierra, a 41-year-old male from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Two passengers of the red GMC Sierra, a 19-year-old male and a 56-year-old male, also from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, were also transported to hospital with more serious injuries.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor. RCMP Forensic Collision Analyst is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
