A Brandon man has been charged in a vehicle collision incident that resulted in two deaths from June 2008.
On the 29th of June, 2008 RCMP Virden Detachment commenced an investigation into the collision of a single vehicle with four cyclists on the eastbound lane of #1 highway approximately 5 km east of Virden, Manitoba.
This collision resulted in the deaths of two of the cyclists: Robert Joseph Carrier 45 of Kelowna, B.C. and Daniel Hurtubise 50 of St. Bruno-de- Montarville, Que. The two other cyclists were injured as well.
Ian Edmond Gibbons of Brandon, Manitoba, has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm under the criminal code. He has a court appearance in Virden, Manitoba in July, 2009.
