On behalf of the members of the legislative assembly, Premier Greg Selinger is inviting Manitobans and all visitors to the province to the annual open house at the Legislative Building on Saturday, Dec. 6.

“While we have settled into our winter weather, the inside of the legislative building is always warm and welcoming,” said Premier Selinger. “Join us as we share the sentiments of the holiday season.”

From 1 to 3 p.m., the premier, cabinet minister and members of the legislative assembly (MLAs) will be welcoming visitors to their offices. The offices of the Speaker of the house and the lieutenant-governor will be open to the public as well as the legislative reading room, party caucus rooms and offices, and the office of the clerk of the legislative assembly.

The afternoon will be hosted by Ace Burpee and Chrissy Troy. There will be musical performances on the Grand Staircase by choirs from École Riverbend, Island Lakes Community School, Wayoata Elementary School, École St. Germain and Ryerson School. The long-standing tradition of the MLA choir being led by the Speaker of the legislature will take place at 3 p.m.

The children’s activity centre in Room 254 will be open to children accompanied by an adult from 1 to 3 p.m. Crafts, colouring and face painting will be available all afternoon and singer Bea Jamie will be performing from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Children of all ages should watch for an appearance of a special guest at the Grand Staircase at 1:30 p.m.

Complimentary festive season photos will be taken in the Rotunda from 1 to 3 p.m. and those attending the open house are asked to share in the season of giving and bring a donation of non-perishable food or an unwrapped toy for the Christmas Cheer Board.
