On December 12, Xandros Efren Zelaya Fuentes pled guilty to one count under to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for returning to Canada without authorization and was sentenced to 30 days in jail by a Winnipeg provincial court judge.
Zelaya Fuentes entered Canada illegally on December 1, 2014, near the port of Emerson and was quickly apprehended by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He was turned over to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) where he was arrested and charged.
“This case demonstrates how efficiently the CBSA works with its partners to keep dangerous criminals, such as Mr. Zelaya Fuentes, from establishing themselves into Canadian society,” said Kim Scoville, Acting Regional Director General, CBSA Prairie Region.
Zelaya Fuentes was previously removed to Honduras by the CBSA in July 2012 for being a member of an organized crime group, the Mara Salvatrucha 13.
