Week three of the RCMP Holiday Checkstop Program, from December 15, 2014, to December 21, 2014, has resulted in numerous charges.
- 2863 vehicles were checked across Manitoba during 90 Checkstops
- 13 people were charged with either Impaired Driving (Alcohol) or Drive Over .08
- 5 people were charged with Refusing a Breath Demand
- The average blood/alcohol reading was 205 mgs% (0.205) – approximately two and half times the legal limit
- The highest blood/alcohol reading reported was 390 mgs% (0.390) – the driver was operating a snowmobile near Nelson House
Other stats from week three of the 2014/2015 program include:
- 17 alcohol-related tiered administrative roadside suspensions
- 457 other traffic-related provincial statute (Highway Traffic Act) charges laid
- 8 Liquor & Gaming Control Act (LGCA) offences
- 6 Other Criminal Code Driving offences
- Approximately 73 warnings were issued
There was one traffic-related fatality during the past week – Headingley RCMP responded to a collision between two semis on Highway 1, west of St Francois Xavier, where icy road conditions contributed to the death of one driver.
Five (5) seizures under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act were reported being made during checkstops this week, in addition to the execution of a Canada Wide immigration warrant for a US citizen.
Last year during week three, there was one traffic-related fatality. RCMP members conducted 91 checkstops – checking 2542 vehicles resulting in 35 people being charged with Criminal Code Impaired Driving offences.
