On June 6, 2009 around 6:30 PM Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a collision between a car and a five car passenger train on highway 242, about five miles north of highway 1.
MacGregor Fire and Ambulance were on scene when police arrived. The driver, and only occupant of the car, was able to get out of the car on his own and was talking with the fire department in the fire truck when police arrived. No injuries were reported from either the driver of the car or any passengers or crew from the train.
The vehicle was a write off and no damage was suffered by the train. CN Police attended to assist with the investigation.
A 47 year old man was charged with fail to obey rail crossing sign under the highway traffic act.
