On Saturday June 6, 2009 at approximately 5:30 AM, Wasagaming RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover on the Rolling River First Nation.
Investigation revealed that the driver of the a west bound vehicle on Road 97 north containing three passengers, lost control and drove off the road. The vehicle came to rest on it’s roof. The driver and passengers were transported to Minnedosa Hospital via ambulance. One of the passengers was transported to Winnipeg Health Science Centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries, the rest were treated and released the same day.
Richard Joseph Desjarlais, 53 years old, of Rolling River First Nation has been charged with: impaired operation over .08 causing bodily harm, impaired operation and driving while disqualified. As well, Desjarlais was on probation at the time and was to abide by several conditions. He has also been charged with three counts of failing to comply with probation. Desjarlais has been remanded in custody and will make his first appearance on June 8, 2009 in provincial court.
Speed and alcohol are considered contributing factors.
