Steinbach MLA has given a statement in regards to local charitable giving after Manitoba was recognized as the most charitable province in Canada.
“Once again local residents in the southeast have been recognized as among the most generous in Manitoba and all of Canada when it comes to charitable giving. This will come as no surprise to anyone who lives or has ever lived in our region. Both in their financial resources and their time, residents of our region give. And they give because they care about their neighbors, about their communities, and about people they have never met.
Residents who give, through their churches, local or national charities or international causes don’t do it for credit or for attention. But they do set an example for all of us and if for no other reason than that, the recognition is important.
Mother Teresa once said that many of the world’s problems were because ‘we have forgotten that we belong to each other.’ Clearly many people in the southeast understand what Mother Teresa was talking about, and approach their lives believing that as people we do belong to each other.”
