The Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board and MP for Provencher, announced Provencher will receive over $56,000 in the first round of funding under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program.
“Our Government, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is taking steps to reduce the effects of the economic slowdown,” said Minister Toews. “Our investments in improved recreational facilities will help stimulate the economy, enhance local facilities and services, and contribute to the health and quality of life of people in communities across Canada.”
Federal funding will be provided to four projects in Provencher by Western Economic Diversification Canada under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, including:
• $50,000 to the City of Steinbach for improvements to the Steinbach tennis court facility;
• $3,599 to the Mitchell & District Community Centre for replacement of the water supply system that produces hot water for use by the zamboni machine;
• $1,412 to the Mitchell & District Community Centre for replacement of an existing swing set and installation of a new swing set at two Mitchell community parks;
• $1,827 to the Mitchell & District Community Centre for replacement of the puck board that covers the wood boards surrounding the ice surface of the Mitchell Arena.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, is part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. RInC will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
