Just over one week away from Steinbach’s premiere downtown street festival, and the entire community is pulling together for the event.
Main Street will be shut down from Friesen Ave. to Lumber Ave. beginning at 7 AM June 19th through June 20th, re-opening for normal traffic flow June 21st. These two blocks are making way for everything from the outdoor Prudential Stage (located in the Extra Foods parking lot beside Earls Meat Market), to the numerous food vendors, artisans and crafters, activity tents, bouncers, mazes, and more, not to mention all of the shoppers out for Sidewalk Sale Days.
The official performer line-up has been released and will include the following on Friday June 19th: Jayden Chornoboy (fiddler), The Basement Boys (old time accordion and mandolin music), Primrose (Hailey Wiens, acoustic alternative/folk artist), Workshop Boys (old time polka music), South East Sparks (cheerleading squad stunt team), Auto City Big Band (jazz music by the SRSS grade 12 students), Jazztwo and Jazzthree (grade 10 & 11 jazz bands from SRSS); Spectrum Vocal
Jazz (SRSS vocal jazz ensemble); McKenzie Road (country music band); Corny Rempel (‘Elvis’ impersonator), and Dormant Ember (popular and classic tunes) – all with no admission charge.
On Friday night beginning at 9 PM is the Social featuring the popular band Free Ride on the Biovail Stage in the Centennial Arena. Tickets are available through members of the Steinbach Senior Huskies as well as the Steinbach Chamber and Steinbach Arts Council offices.
Performers taking the Prudential stage Saturday will include: The Brunch Club (alternative rock band), Ultimate Arts Extreme Dance (xtreme dance groups, hip hop and more), Filipino Cultural Dance & Music Group, Colombian Cultural Dance & Music Ensemble, Steinbach Regional Theatre (‘The Audition’ one-act play), Plautdietsch Variety Show (Low German readings, skits, music), Mr Mark Family Show (family sing-a-ma-jig), and Matt Falk on Main Street (comedian). Taking the stage for the evening ticketed event are; Katelyn Dawn (pop and folk singer/songwriter), Jammin Sam (classic tunes from Beatles to CCR), Sweet Water Creek (classic rock band), and of course the highly anticipated Canadian Hall of Fame Rock Artist, Tom Cochrane with Red Rider.
The festivities will conclude on Sunday with a Mini Show ‘N’ Shine Car Show being put on by the Lions Club in the City Hall parking lot.
Any additional interested volunteers are encouraged to sign up for festival weekend. A Volunteer Information & Orientation session will take place on June 17th at 7:30 PM in City Hall.
