On March 20, 2015, just after midnight, Blue Hills RCMP responded to a report of an eastbound semi-trailer that had gone through the guard rail and into the river on the Grand Valley bridge in the RM of Whitehead, Manitoba.
Police believe that the driver of the semi-trailer was attempting to pass another vehicle at the time of the collision. The truck cab went through the guard rail and landed upright in the water, but the trailer tipped and spilled its cargo of bread into the river. Water rescue personnel were able to get the driver safely to shore.
RCMP report that the 49-year-old male driver, from Winnipeg, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to local hospital.
Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the collision and an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
