On March 22, 2015, at approximately 11pm, Virden RCMP responded to a fatal collision on Harrison Bridge Road in the RM of Sifton, Manitoba.
Police say that a passerby reported a vehicle partly submerged in the river. The local fire department was able to extract the driver from the vehicle who was then transported to a local hospital. The driver, a 16-year-old rural Saskatchewan girl, was the only occupant of the vehicle . She was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
RCMP believe that poor weather and icy road conditions were contributing factors in this collision. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor and the deceased was wearing a seatbelt.
The investigation continues with the assistance of an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.
