Over 200 industry stakeholders and government representatives are expected to be on hand this week in Winnipeg when the president of Maple Leaf addresses Manitoba Pork’s 2015 Annual General Meeting.

As required by law, Manitoba Pork will host its 2015 annual general meeting April 15 in Winnipeg.

The morning session will feature the required approval of financial reports and appointment of auditors as well as detailed reports from the sustainable development, industry performance and public relations committees, a report from the Canadian Pork Council, resolutions and director elections.

Manitoba Pork Executive Assistant Julie Baird says the afternoon session will feature Karl Kynoch’s final report and two featured speakers.

I would expect we would have great interest this year in our keynote afternoon session, which begins at 1 o’clock.

The featured speakers are Michael McCain, president and CEO of Maple Leaf Foods, and the title of his presentation is “Bringing Balance to the Manitoba Pork Industry.”

The second speaker is Dr. Joe Schwarcz, and he’s the director of the Office for Science and Society at McGill University, and his title is “Pigging Out on Science.”

Both of those should be very interesting.

Attendees typically at that session are over 200 people, the majority of whom would be industry stakeholders, financial representatives, government and certainly our producers.

Baird notes, because Karl Kynoch is stepping down, there is a vacancy in the director at large position for a one year term, as well as another for a two year term and the North Star Producers district will also be electing a new director.
