Manitoba farmers will be hitting the fields starting this week in order to seed 11.6 million acres of crops – for a $2.6 billion investment in the provincial economy.
In order to do this, many farmers must drive very large seeding equipment over Manitoba’s roads and highways – and Keystone Agricultural Producers urges motorists to be patient.
“We’re asking motorists to remember to share the roads in a safe manner,” said KAP president Dan Mazier. “That means slowing down to determine how fast the equipment is going, then following at a safe distance until you can pass and please ensure the equipment is not turning or changing lanes before you pass – and make a wide pass when it’s safe to do so.”
Mazier also urges farmers to clearly mark their equipment and use appropriate lighting to alert motorists.
“Everyone needs to utilize safe driving techniques – and consideration – to avoid accidents this growing season,” Mazier stressed.
