During a traffic stop on April 23, 2015, Lac du Bonnet RCMP observed what appeared to be waste from a grow operation. Police also noticed a strong odour of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and as a result, a search warrant was obtained for a nearby residence connected to the driver.
The following day, a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant was executed on a rural property in the RM of Reynolds. RCMP officers from Lac du Bonnet, Whitemouth and Beausejour Detachments, seized approximately 500 plants, as well as equipment used in the grow operation.
RCMP report that 56-year-old Ba Tong Ly of Winnipeg, was arrested and charged with unlawful production of marijuana and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Ly appeared in Winnipeg Provincial Court on April 27, 2015.
