The City of Steinbach, though not currently having a fire ban in place, is offering important information to residents about open burning within City limits.
Steinbach’s Fire Chief, Kelvin Toews, relays an important message to all residents, “It has been a very dry spring so far, and we urge everyone to continue to use extreme caution and common sense when it comes to fires.”
The City notes that residents outside of city limits should contact their municipalities directly for current fire ban information.
The City of Steinbach’s open burning policy is as follows:
- The burning of household and commercial waste and rubbish is not permitted within the City of Steinbach limits.
- Open outdoor burning of natural land clearance materials only (i.e. grass, leaves, twigs) is permitted during the months of May and October on Monday through Saturday from 12pm to 9pm.
- Recreational burning (i.e. campfires) is permitted if in a suitable fire pit. Outdoor burning is not recommended if wind and dry conditions pose unreasonable risks or hazards.
