On May 9, 2015, at about 3:20am, RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Paupanekis Point Road in Norway House, Manitoba.
Initial police investigation shows that a pickup truck was traveling south when it went on to the shoulder of the road. It appears that an attempt was made by the driver to steer back onto the road, but instead, the vehicle slid, hit an approach and rolled.
Police say that both occupants of the vehicle were ejected. They were transported to local hospital, where the driver, a 22-year-old male from Norway House, was pronounced deceased. The passenger in the vehicle, a 34-year-old female from Norway House, was transported to Winnipeg hospital with life-threatening injuries.
RCMP report that at this time, it is undetermined if alcohol is a factor in the collision. RCMP also not that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
