Canadian race car driver and Niverville native, David Richert, was eager to enjoy his first opportunity to lap the legendary Silverstone circuit with team Inter Europol Competition this past weekend.
With spots of rain falling and dark clouds looming overhead, the second race weekend of the Formula Renault Northern European Cup (NEC) took place at the famous grand prix circuit of Silverstone.
Richert fought through a fairly uneventful Race #1 to finish 24th. Race #2 began with a high-speed accident between a few drivers on the run down to Turn 1 which lead to several laps needing to be run behind the safety car while the damaged race cars were removed from the circuit. Richert survived Race #2 to finish in 23rd position.
For Richert it was a wild few weeks following all the success of the first race weekend of the year at Monza and, after losing 12 pounds during a fight with Mononucleosis in the weeks leading up to the Silverstone event, Richert was simply happy to be back in the car again.
It got a bit dodgy for a while but a huge thank you to everyone for all of the support over the past few weeks. Silverstone was a great opportunity to push myself physically and now we have 3 practice days scheduled over the next week, so that will help build back strength towards the next race weekend. ~ David Richert
Richert will participate in a test day at Zolder in Belgium on Thursday prior to heading for a 2-day test at Hockenheim in Germany on June 1st and 2nd. Richert’s next race weekend will take place June 5-7 at the picturesque Red Bull Ring nestled into the Austrian Alps.
