Throughout the weekend of June 19 and 20, 2015, Steinbach RCMP, in cooperation with MPIC, conducted Checkstops in Steinbach.
Steinbach RCMP with the assistance of officers from Headingly Traffic Services and officers from D Division Headquarters conducted Checkstops on June 19 and 20, 2015. Seven additional officers to those working in Steinbach were involved in the Checkstop. As well, the Checkstop van was utilized in the area.
In total, 75 offences were laid under the Highway Traffic Act for various offences including using a cellular phone, speeding and not wearing seat belts. An additional 9 written warnings were issued to drivers for not having front license plates and having tint on their windows which was over the legal limit.
Four 24-hour suspensions were issued for driving with alcohol content between 50 and 80mgs. Two were also issued to young drivers which are restricted to 0 blood alcohol and were found driving with alcohol in their body. In addition, a 19-year-old male from Steinbach was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80 mgs of alcohol. A-37-year-old male from Winnipeg was charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample. On Sunday June 21, Steinbach RCMP conducted a traffic stop of a driver who was weaving from side to side. The 37-year-old female from Steinbach was found to be impaired. She provided breath samples which were over the legal limit.
In addition to the Checkstops, Traffic Services conducted patrols in Steinbach, the RM of Ste Anne, RM of Hanover and the RM of La Broquerie on June 19 and 20. Fourty-six offence notices were issued for liquor and traffic offences. In addition, 17 written warning were also issued to drivers for HTA and liquor offences. Two 24 hour suspensions were issued to drivers with a blood alcohol between 50 and 80 mgs.
