In sweltering temperatures, Niverville native, David Richert, was able to win the Formula Renault Austrian Championship race at the Hockenheimring in Germany this weekend.
With a blistering air temperature of 39 Celcius, drivers were pushed to their absolute limits around the famous Grand Prix racing circuit in Baden-Wurttemberg. After taking an early lead, Richert spent the entire race under relentless pressure from Polish competitor, and teammate, Jakub Smiechowski. But after holding off the charging Smiechowski, Richert was able to drive through the suffocating heat and bring home his first win with Inter Europol Competition in the Formula Renault category.
I am extremely thrilled to come away with the victory. It was a challenging weekend, especially because of the conditions, but I was able to manage the pace of the race and avoid making any mistakes, so to win at Hockenheim is very special. ~ David Richert
Richert, supported by Princess Auto and Silver Jeans Co, took part in this weekend’s Austrian Championship race in preparation for upcoming Formula Renault Northern European Cup (NEC) events which will take place later this year.
Richert’s next race will be in Poznan, Poland, for an FIA CEZ event from July 9-12. The next NEC race event is scheduled to take place at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium from July 22-25.
