On July 16, 2015, just before 4am, the Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a disturbance at a residence on the Dakota Plains First Nation. Police say that a 55-year-old man was found deceased at the residence.

An investigation was undertaken which included assistance from RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Section.

RCMP report that 32-year-old Megan Rae Johnson, from Dakota Plains First Nations, has been charged with 2nd degree murder. She has been remanded into custody and will be appearing in Portage Provincial Court on Monday, July 20, 2015.

Police continue to investigate.
