On July 20, 2015, at approximately 9:40am, Arborg RCMP were called to a business on 1st Avenue where investigators confirmed that a break and enter had occurred.
Further police investigation revealed that two separate break-ins were perpetrated at the same location over the two previous nights. Over $20,000 worth of industrial equipment was reported stolen from the business.
Investigators from the Arborg RCMP detachment and the Winnipeg RCMP Forensic Identification Services found that both break-ins were committed by the same people and two suspects were soon identified.
On July 21, 2015, the two suspects identified earlier were located and arrested in Alberta by Sherwood Park RCMP. The pair was still in possession of a large amount of the stolen property, which investigators were able to link to the Arborg break-ins. The stolen property was recovered for the owners.
“Police database, forensics and surveillance technology were essential in finding the individuals responsible for these crimes,” said Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Manitoba RCMP. “Beyond just solving the case, our officers truly enjoy being able to return stolen property to their rightful owners.”
RCMP report that 29-year-old Jeremy Gordon Smith and 31-year-old Kevin Edward Ehrich, both from Arborg, are facing numerous theft related charges and are currently held in custody.
