On August 7, 2015 shortly after 9am, Virden RCMP received a report of a residential fire following an explosion at a house on Thompson Place in Virden, Manitoba.
Officers attended immediately and found the house fully engulfed in flames. Attempts were made to remove an adult male from the burning debris. Virden firefighters also attended and pulled the home owner from the residence. He was transported to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.
Police say that the house next to this residence also caught fire after the explosion and was totally destroyed.
Two RCMP officers were treated and released at the scene for minor injuries while a firefighter was taken to hospital as a precaution, following the rescue of the injured male. No other injuries were reported.
Initial investigation revealed that a possible gas leak may have contributed to the explosion. The Office of the Fire Commissioner is investigating the cause of the fire.
