The Steinbach Arts Council is pleased to present the exhibit opening for “Peaceful Places and Flight of the Dragonfly” on Wednesday, Sept 2, 2015, at the Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre. The exhibit features art from Clint Toews and Val Stanger
Clint Toews began painting at the age of 67, after his wife Pearl, who had already been studying art, encouraged him to paint. He began to study under Richard Emslie, a well known artist in Winnipeg. Clint’s subjects are mostly animals and nature that represent places of peace and make him feel closer to The Creator. His work has been adjudicated and accepted by the Pulse Gallery at The Forks in Winnipeg. “Art has always been an important way to express what I feel and value about life and the world around me. Art connects me to the subjects I paint.”
Val is a local artist from Ste. Anne, Manitoba who loves producing unique work, her “Birch Bark” paintings are an example of that. She feels very fortunate to have been mentored by wonderful artists both in the United States and Canada. Val believes that her art is an expression of her true self and shows a certain amount of vulnerability. She once read, and truly believes that “Art is a human act, art is risky, generous, courageous, provocative. You can be perfect or you can make art.”
Everyone is invited to attend the opening ceremony at the Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre in The Hall Gallery. Refreshments will be served and a toonie donation is requested and greatly appreciated. The exhibit runs from September 2-28, 2015.
