The RCMP will be hosting a youth experience day in partnership with the Lieutenant Governor’s Youth Experience Program. This event will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 from 10am-12:30pm at the RCMP “D” Division Headquarters, 1091 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
As Youth is one of the RCMP Strategic Priorities, “D” Division will again this year host an RCMP Experience Day to several youth from various regions of Manitoba. This special day will include the participation of different Units, including the Operational Communication Centre, Traffic Services and the Winnipeg Forensic Identification Section.
The Lieutenant Governor’s Youth Experience Program (LGYEP) seeks to encourage at-risk students to improve their school performance by offering a series of incentives each month. Monthly incentives may include a gift certificate for a book store or lunch with a regular member. The students that improve the most over the course of the program are nominated to receive a top incentive. These may include an RCMP or Arts experience day, or an Adventure Education Camp experience.
The program is an additional tool for educators to use as part of their ongoing efforts to help at-risk students improve in school.
