On September 5, 2015, just before midnight, Russell RCMP attended the scene of a collision approximately 10 kms south of Russell on Provincial Highway 16.
Initial police investigation revealed that a northbound SUV collided head-on with a southbound pickup truck. Two of the passengers of the truck were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital while the driver was uninjured. The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, a 73-year-old man from Inglis Manitoba, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
RCMP report that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision. Officers, assisted by a traffic analyst, continue to investigate the contributing factors to the accident.
