Manitoba crafted beers and promotional agricultural videos will highlight the inaugural Manitoba Beer, Food and Film Festival planned for this Friday at the Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre.
Farm and Food Awareness week, which runs from September 21 to 26, is a newly proclaimed observance this year in Canada.
Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre Manager Myrna Grahn says on Friday, from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, those involved in food processing, the agri-food industry, anyone who has a passion for agricultural awareness will be invited to observe Farm and Food Awareness Week by taking part in a new event at the centre.
We’re working collaboratively between Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development staff as well as our Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences staff to plan an event. On the Friday night of the week, the 25 of September, at the Farm and Food Discovery Centre we’re going to be hosting a Manitoba Beer and Ag Film Festival.
We’re going to feature some Manitoba craft beers, we’re going to be having 3 different stations, movies playing and you can watch some of the ag awareness videos and films that have been produced by our commodity associations, our agri-food industry, our researchers that have a number of films out. For example maybe from the Richardson Centre for Functional Foods. It’s a wide variety of things that we can feature to those who may not get to see them in their every day work life. It is an opportunity for our industry, our government staff as well as our academic staff to really get to know each other. It’s a networking event and just an opportunity to enjoy farm and food awareness and the ag awareness that we do in our province.
Grahn notes this event is geared for an adult audience and there’s room for about 75 to participate.
