The City of Steinbach is reminding property owners that Wednesday, September 30, 2015 is the due date for owners to pay their annual tax bills.
Tax bills issued this year total about $25.5 million. Approximately 45 percent of this amount funds a variety of Steinbach projects including the asphalt resurfacing of Penrose Crescent, Kimberly Bay and Madison Drive, intersection improvements at PTH 12 and Park Road, Madison Drive, and Millwork Drive, construction of a multiplex entrance plaza at the new curling rink and building of a detention pond and pathway in the Deerfield area. It also funds municipal programs, including the City’s summer beautification program, street maintenance and snow clearing functions.
The remaining 55 percent of the annual tax levy is forwarded to the Province of Manitoba and the Hanover School Division to fund various school system projects and programs.
Comparatively, Steinbach continues to be among the lowest property tax rates in the province, said Brian Hrehirchuk, the City’s Director of Finance. Good value for tax dollars will continue to be the focus for City decisions.
Tax payments may be made in person or sent by mail to 225 Reimer Avenue, Steinbach, MB R5G 2J1. Property owners are encouraged to issue postdated cheques and drop them off prior to September 30th, 2015.
